Reviews & Ratings
A single star count tells you almost nothing about a gym. A spotless gym with no free weights and a gritty powerlifting gym with world-class kit can both be โ4 starsโ. GymMaps reviews break the rating apart so you can see why a gym scores the way it does.
The five category ratings
Every review rates a gym across five categories:
| Category | What it covers |
|---|---|
| ๐๏ธ Equipment | Quality, condition, and range of kit. |
| ๐งผ Cleanliness | Facility and changing-room upkeep. |
| ๐ฅ Crowding | How busy it gets. Can you actually get on a rack? |
| โก Atmosphere | Vibe, music, community. |
| ๐ค Staff | Friendliness and helpfulness, especially to visitors. |
The gym page shows the average for each category across all reviews, plus an overall rating. That means you can pick your gym by what you care about: a traveller chasing a quiet session reads the crowding score; a powerlifter reads the equipment score.
