Photos & Walkthrough Videos
A listing can claim anything, but a photo proves it. Community media is what makes GymMaps equipment data verifiable: the listing says there’s a deadlift platform, and the photo shows it.
What you can upload
- Photos: the gym floor, equipment, changing rooms, anything a visitor would want to see before paying for a day pass.
- Walkthrough videos: a guided tour of the whole space. For someone deciding whether a gym is worth the taxi ride, a 60-second walkthrough is the single most useful thing on a gym page.
Tagging your media
Tags are what make media findable and useful. When uploading, you can set:

| Category | Walkthrough or equipment. This drives the gallery filter on every gym page. |
| Equipment item & brand | Ties the photo to a specific piece of kit, so it says “this is the Eleiko platform”, not just “a photo of the gym”. |
| Amenity | Documents showers, sauna, lockers, and other facilities. |
See a photo that’s mistagged? Suggest a correction, since approved photo tag suggestions earn +5 points.
Uploads are travel-friendly
Media is compressed on your device before it uploads: photos shrink from multi-megabyte camera files to a few hundred kilobytes, and videos are compressed with a dedicated video pipeline. Uploading from hotel WiFi or roaming data is painless, and the app shows compression progress for larger videos.
Moderation
- Photos from new contributors are reviewed before appearing. After 3 approved photos, your uploads go live instantly.
- Walkthrough videos are always reviewed before publishing, regardless of contributor history.
