Contributing to GymMaps
The map is only as good as its data, and the data comes from people who train. Everything on GymMaps (equipment lists, prices, hours, photos) was contributed by someone who was there. Here’s how to join in, and how moderation keeps quality high.
Adding a new gym
Found a gym that isn’t on the map? Open Contribute → Add Gym and provide:
- Name, location, and gym type (fitness or martial arts)
- As much detail as you know: equipment, amenities, opening hours, day pass price, website, Instagram
New gyms are always reviewed by a moderator before going live. Approved submissions earn +25 points. If you then fill in the gym’s first equipment list or photos, the first contributor bonus adds another +25.
Suggesting edits to existing gyms
Anything on a gym page can be corrected or extended:
- Info updates: opening hours, day pass price, website, address.
- Equipment: add or remove items as the floor changes.
- Brands and amenities: the details that make listings searchable.
- Disciplines: for martial arts gyms.
Suggestions go to a moderator; approved edits earn +5 points. Track everything you’ve suggested under Profile → My Info Updates.
Photo tag suggestions
Spot a photo filed under the wrong category, or one showing equipment that isn’t tagged? Suggest a correction to its tags. Approved photo tag suggestions earn +5 points. More on media tagging in Photos & Videos.
Moderation & auto-approval
Every contribution type has a review policy. New contributors build trust with their first few approved posts; trusted contributors keep the map fresh in real time.
