From a garage in Cesena

In 1983, Nerio Alessandri was about 22 and designing gym equipment in his garage in Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. His brother Pierluigi joined him as co-founder. The company they built, Technogym, is now one of the best-known fitness brands in the world.

Today it is based at the Technogym Village in Cesena and listed on the Italian stock exchange. It exports around 90% of what it makes, to about 100 countries, and has partnered with names such as Ferrari, Juventus, Rafael Nadal and Jannik Sinner.

Its most famous credential is the Olympics. Technogym has been official supplier to nine Olympic Games, starting with Sydney 2000 and running through Paris 2024.

Why gyms choose Technogym

Design and innovation

Technogym has a long record of firsts. Its Excite line, launched in 2002, was the first cardio range with an integrated TV. Kinesis, a cable-based system for free, three-dimensional movement, won a Red Dot design award in 2007. The Skill line, including the Skillmill, Skillrun and Skillbike, is built around athletic performance training.

The premium standard

Walk into a luxury hotel gym or a high-end club and there is a good chance the floor is Technogym. That is useful when you travel: if your hotel has Technogym, you can usually expect good cardio and a full set of selectorised machines.

Strength, too

Technogym is best known for cardio and selectorised kit, but its Pure Strength range covers plate-loaded machines and free-weight equipment for heavier training. If you want the hardcore end of the market, see our Hammer Strength and Panatta guides.

How to find a gym with Technogym equipment

Brand matters more than most people think. The same exercise can feel completely different on two machines, and if you have built your training around one brand at home, a gym full of it abroad means you can pick up exactly where you left off.

  1. Open GymMaps and go to the map.
  2. Tap Filters and scroll to Brands.
  3. Select Technogym. The map now only shows gyms where members have tagged Technogym equipment.
  4. Open a gym to see photos of the actual machines, the full equipment list and day pass prices.

Equipment lists come from the GymMaps community, so if you train somewhere with Technogym kit that is not listed yet, add it. It takes a minute and earns you points.

The short version: Technogym is the polished, premium choice: Olympic pedigree, beautiful design and some of the best cardio in any gym. It is the brand you are most likely to find in a good hotel. Use the GymMaps Brands filter to find a gym with it.
