Short answer

Rogue Fitness is an American strength equipment company founded by Bill Henniger in Ohio, usually dated to 2007. How Rogue started

Rogue began in Toledo, Ohio, when Bill Henniger started selling equipment to the fast-growing world of CrossFit gyms. Most sources date the company to 2007, though some describe it starting in a garage the year before.

Reselling quickly turned into manufacturing. Rogue started building its own racks, bars and accessories, mostly in the USA, and moved to Columbus. In 2018 it moved into a 600,000 sq ft site on 30 acres, the former Timken site, and by 2022 it employed about 1,400 people. Rogue Europe launched in 2014.

Why lifters trust Rogue

Proven at the biggest events

Rogue has supplied the CrossFit Games since 2009 and has been the sole equipment provider since 2010. Since 2017 it has been the official supplier of the Arnold Strongman Classic, where it built the Wheel of Pain, one of the most famous events in strongman. Kit that survives those events survives anything a commercial gym can throw at it.

Built in Ohio

Most of the range is made at Rogueโ€™s own site in Columbus. Its best-known barbell, the Ohio Bar, is machined there.

The CrossFit look

Rogue racks, rigs and bars are what most people picture when they think of a CrossFit box or a serious garage gym. If you travel and want a familiar setup, a gym with a Rogue rig will feel like home.

How to find a gym with Rogue equipment

Brand matters more than most people think. The same exercise can feel completely different on two machines, and if you have built your training around one brand at home, a gym full of it abroad means you can pick up exactly where you left off.

  1. Open GymMaps and go to the map.
  2. Tap Filters and scroll to Brands.
  3. Select Rogue. The map now only shows gyms where members have tagged Rogue equipment.
  4. Open a gym to see photos of the actual machines, the full equipment list and day pass prices.

Equipment lists come from the GymMaps community, so if you train somewhere with Rogue kit that is not listed yet, add it. It takes a minute and earns you points.

The short version: Rogue grew up alongside CrossFit and became the default kit for functional fitness, powerlifting and strongman. If you want a rig, a good bar and an Echo Bike wherever you travel, filter the GymMaps map by Brands, then Rogue.
